The Outer Hebrides or Western Isles, are an archipelago of ten populated islands thirty miles off the North West seaboard of Scotland, stretching 150 miles from the Isle of Barra in the South to the Isle of Lewis in the North. They form the last inhabited land mass before North America and are famous for being magical in their atmosphere and mystical in their beauty.
The Isle of Lewis is the largest of the Hebrides and is the location of the the island's capital, Stornoway, it is here you will find Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, the local government offices, the Western Isles Hospital as well as the new arts centre An Lanntair.

Outer Hebrides Knitwear is located on the outskirts of Stornoway and within a few minutes drive of the airport, an ideal base for discovering both Lewis and Harris and all that these beautiful Islands have to offer.
These islands are steeped in history and pre history. Holm View Guesthouse is within sight of one of the saddest events in recent history, the Iolaire disaster. It is on Lewis that the famous Callanish Stones are located, the Hebrides are an archeologists' dream, or nightmare if quantity of sites are anything to go by. |
| A visit to the Arnol Blackhouse and Gearrannan Village is a must and you can't come to the islands without seeing a demonstration of weaving because, of course this is the home of Harris Tweed! |
